When baking cookies, you'll learn how individual ingredients come together to form dough and how that dough turns into cookies. You'll measure butter, sugar, and flour, mixing everything in a bowl. You'll notice how the dough changes and becomes firmer. Using an ice cream scoop, you'll divide the dough into equal-sized balls. This is important so that all the cookies bake evenly. You'll practice precise work and observe how the dough transforms in the oven. Soft balls turn into firm cookies. You'll learn to complete a task step by step and patiently wait. In the end, you'll see a result that comes from your work. You can eat the cookies and share them with friends and family.

What you'll need

  • 150g soft butter
  • 100g brown sugar
  • 80g sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 220g flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 100g chocolate chips (optional)

How it works

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Line the baking tray with parchment paper. In a bowl, combine 220g flour, one packet of baking powder, one packet of vanilla sugar, and 80g sugar.

  2. Add 150g soft butter, a pinch of salt, and 100g brown sugar. Crack the egg and add it to the bowl. Stir everything into a firm dough.

  3. If you like, mix in the chocolate chips now. Take the ice cream scoop. Form 6 balls per tray and space them out on the tray. This gives the cookies room to spread.

  4. Note: The oven gets very hot! An adult should place the tray in the oven and take it out later. This keeps you safe while you can watch and taste your cookies afterward. Bake the cookies for about 12–15 minutes.

  5. Carefully take the tray out. Let the cookies cool down. Now they will become stable. After that, you can try your first cookie.
