Plums are as much a part of late summer as colorful leaves are of autumn. When you cut them open, the yellow flesh shines, and the pit sits in the middle like a treasure. You can create a crumble from these fruits. The word 'crumble' comes from English and means 'crumbs'. And that's exactly how it looks later: juicy fruits at the bottom, crispy crumbs on top. A dessert you can take warm out of the oven, smelling of cinnamon. The best part: you don't need a dough base, no rolling, just a few simple steps. Everyone can help. Wash, cut, mix, and knead the plums. In the end, you put the bowl in the oven, and after half an hour, a little miracle awaits.

What you'll need

  • 500 g plums
  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ cup oats
  • 100 g margarine or soft butter
  • 5 tablespoons sugar for the crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons sugar + 1 teaspoon cinnamon for the plums
  • oven mitts
  • baking dish

How it works

  1. First, wash the plums thoroughly. Cut them open, remove the pit, and chop the halves into smaller pieces. This way, they will become nice and soft in the oven and release a lot of juice.

  2. Place the plum pieces in a bowl. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon over them and stir until each piece is coated with a hint of sweetness and spice.

  3. Now mix half a cup of flour, half a cup of oats, 5 tablespoons of sugar, and 100g of soft butter or margarine along with a packet of vanilla sugar in a bowl. Rub everything with your fingers until small crumbs form.

  4. The plums go at the bottom of a baking dish. Spread the crumbs on top. This creates the typical layer: juicy fruits at the bottom, crispy topping on top.

  5. Put the dish in the oven and bake at 200 degrees. After about 30 to 35 minutes, it will smell wonderful, and the crumbs will shimmer golden brown. It's best to let an adult take the dish out. Let the crumble cool for a moment. Take a spoon and try it. It tastes especially delicious warm.
