Your Paper Rocket Launches!

Your Paper Rocket Launches!

🎂 5 + years ⏱️ 30 min 📍 Anywhere ⭐ medium

Build and launch a rocket! All you need is paper, yarn, and your ideas. First, design your own rocket. What shape will it be? Does it have flames, windows, or a flag? While drawing, plan your spaceship. It's just like what real engineers do. Then, carefully cut out your rocket and attach two small paper tubes on the back. Thread yarn through these tubes. By pulling alternately on the left and right, the rocket moves upwards. Almost like a launch! Maybe you can have a little rocket race with friends or siblings. Who can achieve the fastest launch to the moon?

What you'll need

  • Paper or cardstock
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • 2 strips of paper for tubes
  • Yarn (2 long pieces)
  • Nail, hook, or door handle for attachment

How it works

  1. Draw a large rocket on your paper. Imagine windows, flames, or other designs. Your rocket can be colorful.

  2. Carefully cut out the rocket.

  3. Roll two small strips of paper into tubes. Secure them to the back of your rocket with tape.

  4. Thread a long piece of yarn through each paper tube. The rocket now hangs between the two threads.

  5. Tie the top ends of the threads together. Hang them on a nail, hook, or door handle.

  6. Hold one thread in each hand. Pull alternately left and right. Your rocket climbs the thread. Countdown: 3…2…1… Launch!
