When it gets dark outside, you can light up a little something inside, but in a very special way! Your very own house made from a white sandwich bag. It looks like it’s glowing warmly, just like real windows in the evening. You can design your house yourself, paint windows, a door, maybe even a little garden in front. And the best part: It’s super easy, you hardly need anything for it. Just a bit of imagination, courage to try, and a steady hand. This craft project is not only fun, but you also learn to work with shapes, choose colors, and think about how your house should look. This way, you train your spatial thinking and creativity. If you want, you can create a whole village, and each house tells its own story.

White sandwich paper bags
A pair of scissors

Colored pencils, wax crayons, or felt-tip pens

How it works

Take a white sandwich bag and place it in front of you. The opening is at the top, where you will cut out a roof. You can make a pointed roof, a flat one, or a wavy one. Each shape looks different! This way, you learn how shapes change the appearance. Be careful not to tear the bag.
Now it’s time to get creative! Use felt-tip pens or wax crayons to decorate your house. Think about: Where are the windows? Where is the door? Maybe with a house number? If you feel like it, you can even draw some inhabitants inside. Every house is different!
To keep your house from tipping over, put something inside the bottom. A thick strip of paper, rice, or small pebbles will do. This way, your house stands securely, even if someone blows on it. You’ll notice how the weight changes, so try out what works best.
Now comes the best moment! Place an LED tealight inside your house. When you turn on the light, your little house glows from within. Make sure you don’t use real fire. LED lights are safe and still look like real candlelight.
Find a nice spot: on the windowsill, table, or shelf. If several light houses are standing together, it looks like a little village. Watch how the light shines through your windows. Maybe tomorrow you’ll build the next house, who knows?
