What you'll need

  • Wood slices
  • Acrylic paints
  • Brush
  • Drill
  • String or ribbon
  • Maybe templates for designs
  • Beads
  • Cardboard or felt
  • Glue

How it works

  1. Choose your favorite animals. They can be anything from cats and dogs to forest animals like deer or foxes.

  2. Paint the animals on the wood slices. Be as creative as you like! You might want to use fun colors or patterns. Cut out ears or other parts from felt or cardboard. Carefully glue the ears or other parts onto the wood slices.

  3. Let the paint dry well. Once the wood slices are dry, carefully drill a small hole in them (this should be done by an adult).

  4. Thread string or ribbon through the hole to hang your charm. Add some beads to the string for an extra special touch.

  5. And your homemade animal charms are ready! You can hang them on a tree, attach them to your backpack, or simply give them to your friends. Have fun crafting and painting!
