Making Toilet Paper Caterpillars

Have you ever wondered if you can create something exciting from something as ordinary as toilet paper? With a little creativity and some simple materials, you can make magical caterpillars that grow when you pour water on them!

What you'll need

Toilet paper
Felt-tip pens
A pen
A pipette or watering can
Water

How it works

Take a piece of toilet paper and lay it flat in front of you. Use felt-tip pens to color the toilet paper in bright colors. You can draw stripes, dots, or any pattern you like!
Place the pen at the edge of the colored toilet paper and carefully start rolling the paper around the pen. Make sure it is rolled tightly.
Press the rolled toilet paper inwards from both ends so it looks like a small caterpillar. Gently pull the pen out of the rolled toilet paper to maintain the shape.
Place the caterpillar on a plate or a waterproof surface. Use a pipette or watering can to slowly drip water over the caterpillar. Watch it expand and 'grow'!
Experiment with different colors, patterns, and amounts of water to see how your caterpillars change.
The toilet paper absorbs the water and swells up. It looks like your caterpillar is growing! Have fun trying and experimenting!
