Making a Chestnut Launcher

What you'll need

• Chestnuts
• Crepe paper or fabric scraps
• A pair of scissors
• Chestnut drill
• Craft glue

How it works

   Choose a nice, smooth chestnut that fits well in your hand. This will be the 'head' of your chestnut launcher. Now think about which colors you want to use. Crepe paper is soft and light, perfect for the 'tail' of the launcher. Fabric scraps work well too.

   Now it's time to drill! Take the chestnut drill and carefully make a hole in your chestnut. The hole should be deep enough to hold the tail well, but not too big. You'll need to work patiently and carefully here.

   Cut long strips from your crepe paper or fabric, about 40 cm long. How many you take is up to you – the more strips, the more colorful and fun your launcher will be. Twist the strips tightly together at one end. This will make it easier to stick them into the hole.

   Apply craft glue to the twisted end of the crepe paper and insert it into the drilled hole. Press it firmly so that the tail holds well. Let the glue dry for a moment. Can you feel the excitement of launching your chestnut soon? Patience is important. Let it dry first.

   Try out your chestnut launcher! Hold the chestnut firmly in your hand and throw it forward with a swing. Let go and watch it fly through the air! The colorful tail will flutter in the wind, and your chestnut will glide elegantly through the air. Who can throw it the farthest?
