What you'll need

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1.5 cups water
  • Optional: cooking oil
  • bowl
  • rolling pin
  • Optional: food coloring
  • surface
  • Optional: cookie cutters
  • parchment paper

How it works

  1. Add 1 cup of cornstarch, 2 cups of baking soda, and 1.5 cups of water to a pot. Stir the mixture well to avoid lumps.

  2. Place the pot on medium heat and stir the mixture constantly. After a few minutes, it will start to thicken.

  3. Once it has a consistency like mashed potatoes, remove the pot from the heat.

  4. Transfer the warm mixture onto a piece of parchment paper or into a bowl. Let it cool until it's warm to the touch.

  5. Now knead the mixture well with your hands. If it's too dry, a few drops of oil or water will help. You can now shape figures, pendants, or small decorative elements. Let the finished pieces air dry, which takes 24 to 48 hours depending on thickness.

  6. After drying, you can paint, varnish, or decorate your creations with glitter. Try out different shapes and create your own artworks. Have fun modeling!
