What you'll need

  • Colored paper A4
  • A roll of string
  • A pair of scissors
  • A stapler
  • Felt-tip pens

How it works

  1. Take the colored paper and fold it in half. You should end up with a sheet in A5 size. This fold will be the base of your kite. Press the fold down well so that the paper is nice and smooth.

  2. Now let's make the wings! Take the two corners of one open side of the folded paper. Fold these corners out to the left and right so they stick out like wings. Staple these corners down on each side.

  3. Now it's time to prepare the kite for flying. To ensure your kite flies straight, staple it together at the bottom, right in the middle.

  4. Tie the beginning of the string to the bottom part of the kite, exactly where you stapled the paper together in the center. This will keep everything secure.

  5. Now comes the fun part. Hold the roll of string in your hand and let the kite fly. The roll will be your steering mechanism. You can hold and control the kite by simply letting out more string or pulling it tight.

  6. Your Bird Kite is ready to take off! Go outside, hold the roll of string tightly, run, catch the wind, and let it fly. Tip: With more string and wind, it will fly higher!

  7. Does your kite need a little something extra? Then draw or stick on some eyes and a beak! You can use colored paper or felt-tip pens to give your Bird Kite a funny face.
