What you'll need

  • Chalk

How it works

  1. Take chalk and draw 40 numbered squares on a paved surface, each about 30x30 cm in size. Arrange the squares in 4 rows of 10 squares each, so you have 40 squares. Draw the numbers not next to each other, but mixed up, yet reachable with a jump.

  2. Before you start the game, set the rules. You can decide whether to play in turns or against each other. The basic rule is that each player must hop through the squares first on both feet, then on one foot, without touching the lines.

  3. Now stand at the beginning of the playing field. Hop from square to square in the correct order. Start by hopping on both feet. Once you feel more confident, you can hop on one foot or even jump backward from 40 to 1.

  4. We wish you lots of fun and a great time together playing Forty Hopping - on your marks, get set, go!
