Cutting Play Dough

Cutting Play Dough

🎂 4 + years ⏱️ 30 min 📍 At home ⭐ very easy

When you cut play dough, you practice something you'll often need at school... using scissors safely. Play dough is perfect for this because it doesn't slip, and you can immediately feel how well your cut works. Roll a long snake and cut off small pieces. With each snip, you’ll notice your fingers getting stronger and your control over the scissors improving. This makes you braver and more independent. You can create more with the small pieces of dough. Make impressions, build figures, or create patterns. Try it out; you decide how many pieces to cut and what to make from them. This way, you combine learning and fun. And you'll be amazed at how quickly you see progress.

What you'll need

  • Play dough
  • A pair of scissors
  • Cutting mat
  • Play dough toys, optional

How it works

  1. Get some ready-made play dough or make it using the recipe in our app. Knead it briefly until soft. Shape it into a ball and roll it into a long snake. The snake should be thick enough for you to cut easily.

  2. Take a pair of children's scissors. Hold them steady and place them against the play dough. Cut off small pieces. Take your time and watch how the dough is cut cleanly.

  3. Press the dough pieces into play dough toys. Discover impressions and shapes. Or arrange the pieces into lines, circles, or small pictures. Experiment with what’s possible.

  4. Collect the play dough in a container to prevent it from drying out. Shake your hands briefly to relax them and feel how much you've accomplished today.
