Do you want to create a dancing puppet from a simple cardboard box? You'll not only learn to be creative, but also how to turn something ordinary into something magical. The cardboard box will be folded and designed so that it looks like your puppet is really dancing when you squeeze it. Let's get started! Here comes the guide!

What you'll need

  • Outer shell of an empty cardboard box
  • Scissors
  • Felt pens or colored pencils
  • Stickers, glitter, or other craft supplies

How it works

  1. Take an empty cardboard box or a similar small box. Pull out the inner box so that you hold the outer shell in your hand. Place the shell in front of you. This shell will later become your puppet, but you need to reshape it a bit.

  2. Cut about two centimeters into each of the four corners of the box. Make sure your cuts are even. Fold the short and long sides outward. The box will now stay folded and take on the typical shape.

  3. In the middle at the top, draw a face. Should your puppet look happy, cheeky, or surprised? You decide! The folded long side at the bottom will be the legs. The folded short sides will form the arms.

  4. Gently press the box flat and then let it go. Press it flat to the other side. Watch how your puppet 'dances' – sometimes faster, sometimes slower, just as you control it.

  5. Your puppet is almost finished. Now you can make it unique! Draw funny patterns or stick stickers on it. Maybe it will also get a hat or shoes? In the end, you have a little work of art that can dance and brings a lot of joy while playing.
