The Carrot Flute. Music with a Carrot

At Easter, there’s often a carrot on the table. But today, it won't be a snack; it will be your instrument! Imagine this… You hold a carrot in your hand, and suddenly, music is created. You try, blow, and listen closely. Sometimes it works right away, and sometimes you need patience. With a bit of courage, you can turn everyday items into something new. Maybe you'll even play a little song for your family. Along the way, you'll learn to work carefully, solve problems, and be proud of your result. And the best part: your carrot flute is homemade!

What you'll need

1 thick carrot
Knife (with adult supervision)
Thick drill bit
Thin drill bit
Cutting board

How it works

Cut off the tip about two fingers wide from the front. Carefully twist the thick drill bit into the carrot. This will create a straight tunnel. Stop in time. There should be no hole at the back!
Measure two fingers back from the cut surface. There, cut a straight slit to the middle. From there, cut diagonally to the opening. This is where the sound will come from.
Insert a suitable piece of carrot as a stopper at the front until it fits snugly. Pull it out, cut it in half, and insert one half back into the diagonal opening. Trim the excess flush.
Blow into it and try out your flute. Tip: Make small holes like on a flute. Be careful not to poke all the way through! Blow into it and only open one hole at a time while playing. Listen to how the sound changes.
Play your favorite song. After that, you can eat it all up!
