How it works

Dress warmly and get ready for your snowflake lab.
Lay the dark sheet of paper or fabric outside to get cold. This prevents the snowflakes from melting immediately when they land on it.
Carefully let snowflakes land on your cold paper or fabric. Try to catch different snowflakes to see various patterns.
Now take your magnifying glass and examine the snowflakes closely. See how many different shapes and patterns you can discover. Are they all the same or do you find differences?
Did you know that each snowflake has six corners? Find out if that's true by looking closely at the snowflakes.
Draw the patterns of the snowflakes in your explorer's journal or take photos if you can. This way, you can share your discoveries with friends and family later.
