Make Raspberry Chips
Here's a really cool project for you. You're going to make raspberry chips! These are crispy treats made from fresh raspberries that you can easily prepare yourself. You'll learn how to create a great and healthy snack from simple ingredients. So grab your aprons and let's get started! Caution! Be especially careful when working with the oven, as it gets very hot! Always ask an adult for help when putting the raspberries in the oven or taking the baking tray out. Always use oven mitts to avoid burns. Safety first!
What you'll need
- Fresh raspberries
- A knife
- A cutting board
- A baking tray
- Baking paper
- A wooden spoon
- Oven
- Oven mitts
How it works
-
First, you need to wash the raspberries thoroughly. Place them in a sieve and rinse them under cold water. Gently shake the sieve to ensure each raspberry is well cleaned. Once the berries are clean, place them on a kitchen towel and let them dry a bit.
-
Now it gets exciting! Take the raspberries and place them on a cutting board. Use a knife to slice the raspberries. Caution: If you're not very confident with the knife, ask an adult for help.
-
After slicing the raspberries, carefully place them on a baking tray that you've lined with baking paper. The slices should not overlap so they can dry evenly.
-
Now it gets really magical! Preheat the oven to 80 degrees Celsius. Slide the baking tray with the raspberries into the oven. To let the moisture escape, wedge a wooden spoon between the oven door to keep it slightly open.
-
This way, the raspberries can dry slowly and evenly! It takes about three hours for the raspberries to become really crispy. You can briefly open the oven door in between to let out more moisture.
-
Once the raspberry slices are dry and crispy, take the baking tray out of the oven. But be careful, it's hot! Let the chips cool completely before removing them from the baking paper. You'll see how beautifully crispy they have become.
-
Finally, the moment has arrived! The raspberry chips are ready to be enjoyed. Try them right away or share them with your family and friends. They are not only super delicious but also a great snack for in between. Have fun baking and snacking!
