Hazelnut in Autumn
As the leaves turn colorful and the cool autumn breeze blows, it's time for an adventure in the garden, park, or forest. Follow the trail of hazelnuts!
What you'll need
- Basket or collecting container
How it works
-
Pack a small basket and start your exploration.
-
In autumn, the hazel tree drops its nuts. Look for a tree with round, serrated leaves. The fallen nuts are often right below it!
-
Crawl on the ground and take a close look at the nuts. They are hidden in a rough, green/brown shell that protects them.
-
Collect some nuts in your basket. Tip: At home, you might even dry and store them for delicious winter dishes!
-
Describe how the hazelnuts feel and what they smell like.
-
Try to crack a hazelnut with a stone. But be careful! Go slowly and watch your fingers.
-
Once you've cracked the nuts, taste them! What does autumn taste like to you? Have fun on your autumn hazelnut expedition!
