Fireworks in a Jar: Your Own Mini Experiment

What you'll need
- Transparent vase or jar
- Water
- Vegetable oil
- Food coloring
- A spoon

Fill your large vase two-thirds full with water. Carefully place it on the table. Take a close look at the water. It's clear, right? That will change soon!

Take the small jar and add about two tablespoons of oil. Now it's time for the colors! Drop a few drops of food coloring into the oil. Each color will stay in small dots at first. Looks cool, right?

Now take a spoon and gently stir the colors in the oil. The drops break into even smaller dots. Slowly pour or drop the oil-color mixture into the jar with water. Watch what happens!

The color sinks through the oil into the water and starts to dance like a little fireworks display. It looks like fireworks are exploding underwater.
