Watermelon is really tasty. It's sweet, refreshing, and instantly lifts your mood. But often it's so big that you don't know how to eat it. It drips, slips, and sticks. That's exactly why there's a clever idea. A simple trick to cut the melon into many small, bite-sized pieces that you can easily grab with your fingers. No fork, no big mess. And everyone can join in. Before you start: You need a sharp knife. If you're not yet confident with knives, please ask an adult to help you.

What you'll need

  • Watermelon
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Optional lemons

How it works

  1. Place the watermelon on a cutting board. An adult (or you) cuts it in half from top to bottom. Now you have two halves. Put one half aside. Continue with the other half.

  2. Turn the watermelon half so that the red side is facing down. Cut the watermelon into thick slices, about two to three fingers wide. Now you have many watermelon slices like a loaf of bread.

  3. Leave the slices as they are. Now cut across again, just like before, but in the other direction.

  4. Done! You now have many small, handy watermelon pieces. You can easily grab them. Now you can call your family or friends. Everyone can join in, and you've prepared the watermelon really cleverly.

  5. Extra tip: Have you ever tried watermelon with a splash of fresh lemon juice? It makes it even fresher and a bit zestier. Just drizzle a few drops over it, and you're done. Give it a try!
