Baking Muffins with Cups: A Basic Recipe

Baking Muffins with Cups: A Basic Recipe

Sometimes an adventure doesn't start in the woods, at the beach, or on a playground. It starts in the kitchen. Maybe there's an empty mixing bowl, maybe flour dust is in the air, and maybe someone asks, 'Shall we bake muffins?' From here, it becomes more than just a recipe. It's a little trip into math. A scoop of science. A spoonful of community. And definitely a big scoop of feeling. Because when you bake muffins, you learn more than just stirring. You learn to estimate. To decide. To taste. And sometimes to say, 'That was too much sugar. Next time, I'll do it differently.' And now: apron on, sleeves rolled up, let's get to the muffins!

What you'll need

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • Half a cup of milk
  • Half a cup of soft butter
  • 1 tablespoon (tbsp) of baking powder
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • A bowl
  • A tablespoon
  • Muffin liners and a muffin tray
  • A toothpick

How it works

  1. Grab a large bowl. First, add 2 cups of flour, 1 tbsp of baking powder, 1 cup of powdered sugar, and 1 packet of vanilla sugar. Stir everything well with a spoon.

  2. Now get half a cup of milk, 3 eggs, and half a cup of soft butter. That's about 80g of butter. Crack the eggs, and add them with the milk and butter to the dry ingredients in the bowl.

  3. Now mix everything well. Use a hand mixer. Mix until there are no lumps left. The batter should be creamy. If it's too thick, a splash of milk will help. If it's too runny, maybe add another spoonful of flour.

  4. Place your muffin liners on a baking tray or in the muffin tin. If you want, you can also add chocolate chips, berries, or sprinkles to the batter. Fill each liner with batter about two-thirds full. The batter will rise in the oven, so don't overfill.

  5. An adult sets the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit). Then the muffins go in for about 20 minutes. Use the time to clean up.

  6. After 20 minutes, an adult does the test. Take a wooden skewer and poke it into the center of a muffin. Pull it out. Is the toothpick dry? The muffin is ready. If there's still batter on it, bake for another 3-5 minutes. Now take them out of the oven.

  7. Let the muffins cool on a rack. You mixed the batter yourself, measured, stirred, and waited patiently. Maybe you made a mistake or something went wrong, but that's okay. You still did it. And now you can be really proud of yourself.
