Ant Cake Baking
Imagine sitting on the grass and watching an ant. It's tiny and scurries off, carrying a crumb that's almost as big as itself. It looks strong, hardworking, and somehow funny. Just as funny is the cake you'll learn about today: the ant cake. Don't worry, there are no real ants running around here. The 'ants' in this cake are chocolate sprinkles. When you cut the cake, it looks like tiny ants are crawling through the batter. Why is it called that? Because many people used to think that the sprinkles in the batter looked just like an ant trail. The ant cake is a classic. It's easy to bake, almost always turns out well, and is a lot of fun.
What you'll need
- 5 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 1 cup oil
- 1 cup milk
- 3 cups flour
- 1 packet baking powder
- 1 cup chocolate sprinkles
- bowl and mixer
- baking pan
- oven mitts
- baking brush
- butter for greasing
How it works
-
Take a large bowl. Add 3 cups of flour. Add the packet of baking powder and stir briefly.
-
Pour in 1 cup of sugar and the vanilla sugar. Then crack in the 5 eggs.
-
Now add 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of cooking oil to the bowl. Stir everything until you have a smooth batter.
-
Finally, gently fold in the chocolate sprinkles. Preheat the oven to 175 °C (top/bottom heat). Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan or springform.
-
Important: Always ask an adult when using the oven. Bake the cake for about 50-60 minutes. Do the toothpick test. If the toothpick comes out clean, the cake is done.
-
Let the cake cool for a bit, then you can slice it and admire the ant trails.
