Twisting Dandelion

What you'll need
- Glass or bowl of water
- Scissors
- Dandelion stem
How it works

Go outside and find fresh dandelion. Cut off the stem. Remove the leaves and flower, leaving only the stem.

Now, carefully cut the stem lengthwise into several strips with the scissors. You can make two, four, or even more strips, depending on how thick your stem is.

Place the cut stems in a glass of water. Watch as the strips start to twist gradually.

The twisting happens because the inner layers of the stem absorb water and swell faster than the outer layers. This causes the strips to turn outward and curl up!
