First, you need a fallen tree trunk. Have you found one? Great! Now you are ready for your exploration. But before you start, remember: The little creatures living here see you as giant giants. So, be very careful.
Take a moment to look closely at the tree trunk. Touch it lightly. Feel its bark. Is it rough? Smooth? What does it smell like? Good, now gently lift a piece of the bark. Do this slowly and carefully so you don't disturb anyone who has made their home underneath.
What do you see? Maybe you discover little beetles busily scurrying around. Or you might find spider webs. Sometimes, worms hide under the bark, having found a moist, green home there.
Every little creature and plant has its role here. The beetles help break down the wood. This is important because, from the old tree trunk, new soil is created where other plants can grow later. It's like magic!
