What you'll need
- Salt
- Food coloring
- Jar or bag
- Templates of letters and numbers
- Tray or baking sheet
- Spatula or ruler
How it works

Fill a jar or bag about halfway with salt. Add a few drops of food coloring. Seal the jar or bag tightly and shake vigorously until the color is evenly distributed. If you want different colors, repeat this step with other colors.

Let the colored salt dry a bit on a tray or baking sheet. In the meantime, you can print out the templates. You can also draw or write your own templates. The templates will help you later when tracing.

Once the colored salt is dry, spread it out on a tray or a smooth surface. Sprinkle it evenly so you have a layer. Now take a template and place it next to the tray. You can now trace the letters or numbers with your finger or a brush.

It's like writing in the sand and very relaxing. When you're done, you can smooth the salt with a spatula or ruler and start again.
