Imagine you are going together to a huge supermarket. For kids, it looks like a big wonderland filled with colorful packages, tasty sweets, and fascinating toys. Every shelf and aisle seems to promise a new adventure. But parents see the supermarket a bit differently. They notice the prices, the sugar content, and the nutritional information. They think about the budget and the family's health. They want their children to be happy, but they also want to ensure that their children make healthy choices. That's why parents sometimes have to say 'no'. But it's also important to learn why you can't always have everything. Here are some tips on how to have a great time together.

How it works

  1. Joint Planning: Make a list together of the things you need. Discuss why some items go on the list and others do not.

  2. Nutrition Detectives: Learn more about the foods you buy. Look at the nutritional information and talk about what it means. What happens if we eat too much sugar? Why do we need vitamins?

  3. Supermarket Role Play: Play a role-playing game at home where the child takes on the role of the parents and has to decide what to 'buy'.

  4. Budget Challenge: Give the child a small budget for shopping and let them decide what they want to buy with that money. This way, you learn together. You understand how the other thinks. The supermarket becomes a place to learn and grow.
