Sometimes food is even more fun when it looks like it came from a fairy tale forest. For this snack, you only need a banana, a few strawberries, and an idea: Banana stem + Strawberry hat = Mushroom to bite into! These little fruit mushrooms are super easy to make, look great, and taste sweet and fresh. Perfect for birthday parties, afternoon snacks, or picnics in the garden.

What you'll need

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Bananas
  • Cutting board and child-safe knife
  • Plate for serving

How it works

  1. Peel the banana and cut it into pieces, about 3–5 cm long. These will be the 'stems' of your mushrooms.

  2. Wash the strawberries and cut off the green tops. The strawberry hat should be flat on the bottom so it sits well on the banana.

  3. Assemble the mushroom. Take a piece of banana and place a strawberry on top with the cut side facing down. Your mushroom is ready!

  4. Tip: If you like, you can dot some yogurt on the strawberry hat to make little white spots like a fly agaric. And now? Enjoy your meal! And who knows... maybe you'll think of something else that should not be missing from your fairy tale forest plate?

What kids learn from this
