Spring Joy to Snack: Colorfully Decorated Rice Cakes
It's finally getting warmer outside, the first flowers are peeking out of the ground, and there's a bit of magic in the air. Spring is here! And with it comes the desire to try something new, something colorful, cheerful, and delicious. Here you can create little works of art from rice cakes. With a bit of powdered sugar, colorful sprinkles, and spring-themed decorations, you can turn them into a small masterpiece. You get to decide what goes on top. A butterfly made of sugar decorations? Or a colorful flower? You'll learn that patience is needed when the powdered sugar doesn't behave as you want it to. And sometimes things might not go as planned, but that's okay. It will just be different. That's spring too. Everything can grow, including your ideas.
What you'll need
- Rice cakes
- Powdered sugar
- Water
- Bowl
- Spoon
- Colorful sprinkles
- Edible decorations e.g. bees, butterflies
- Optional fruit
- Optional lemon juice
How it works
-
Place the rice cakes in front of you. Now comes the 'glue': powdered sugar. It holds everything on the rice cake. You need a little water or lemon juice, just a few drops. Gradually add it to the powdered sugar until a smooth, thick cream forms.
-
Then take a spoon or a brush and spread the mixture on the rice cake. Now it's time to get creative. Grab a selection of sprinkles. Maybe there are small sugar flowers, bees, or edible butterflies. Anything that looks like spring is allowed.
-
If you like, you can also use pieces of fruit. Before you start snacking, take a moment to admire your creations. What have you made? What do you like best? What would you do differently next time? You might also want to take photos of your masterpieces.
