What you'll need

  • Potato sack or bucket
  • Shovel
  • Garden gloves

How it works

  1. The harvest time for early varieties begins in May. Late potato varieties are harvested in October. Which variety will you harvest? Find out together.

  2. How do you know if the potatoes are ripe? Run a finger over the potato and see if you can peel off the skin. If the skin is firm enough, you can harvest the potatoes.

  3. Let's start digging! Dig, search, and discover potatoes. Do you find a potato shaped like a heart?

  4. What can you create with potatoes? And what do you like the most? Home-harvested potatoes taste even better. Think together about what you want to cook or bake first with your potatoes.

  5. Tip: Store your potatoes in a place that is dry, dark, and cool. It's best not to wash the potatoes. This way, they will last longer.
